I'm cycling with Frankie and Carl from Brighton to Torpoint, Cornwall on the 4th July 2011 to raise the money for my airfare to go to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. I've been volunteering in Brighton for this amazing charity called rYico that helps street children in Kigali. And the opportunity has arisen for me to go there and set-up a sewing and tailoring vocational skills workshop for the children. I want to help in what ever way i can to get children away from the poverty and explotation that they experience living parentless, on the streets.
rYico houses, loves and schools some of these children and wants to be able to reach out to them all. It's 240 miles to Cornwall and i haven't ridden a bike for over 30 years! Those of you who know me will see i am going for the "sympathy sponsor" as 3 years ago i broke my heel and contracted a flesh eating bacteria.
Thanks to the amazing socialist institution that is the NHS, my foot was rebuilt (anyone remember the six million dollar man?) and saved from amputation. So i'm eternally grateful to them and to still be able to walk the walk...eh, cycle the cycle!
Carl is supporting and raising money for rYico too. http://www.justgiving.com/carl-mcadam/?fb_ref=fundraising-page-top&fb_source=profile_oneline
And Frankie is raising money for the Macmillan cancer charity, here's a link to his page: (http://www.justgiving.com/Francis-Hewitt
