The brutal aggression of Israeli forces knows no bounds as we learn of its callous attacks, even on UN schools in Gaza.
So far, the death toll on the Palestinian side is over 750, and over 3000 injured with the numbers rising every day. Most of these victims are innocent civilians, women and children.
International aid agencies have confirmed that the situation in Gaza Strip is now a full-blown humanitarian catastrophe. Hospitals, homes, schools and mosques have all been targeted by the Israeli assault.
More than a million Gazans face extreme shortages of electricity, water, and other basic needs and thousands of people have fled their homes, with no hope of escape as the borders are closed. Food stocks are running short. Hospitals are struggling to function without electricity, relying on generators, and are unable to provide adequate care to the high number of casualties due to lack of basic equipment and medicine. Sewage is flooding into the streets of Beit Hanoun as the waste water pumping stations are shutting down due to lack of electricity.
Families Relief has been working in Palestine since 1994. We have a full time office there and we work directly with the impoverished people of Gaza on a daily basis, during war and occupation. We have first hand experience of working under extreme conditions in Palestine. Our people on the ground are experienced and determined workers who are always standing alongside the suffering people of Gaza during the long occupation and inhumane siege of this land.
In response to this crisis, we have already sent an additional £60,000 to our Office in Gaza for emergency supplies to help the people we work with cope with this crisis. Given our size and resources, we acknowledge our assistance is a drop in the ocean, but we are confident, our targeted assistance to those most in need, due to our presence on the ground and longstanding experience, we will be making a difference to the lives of many Palestinians who desperately need our help.
