I'm a bit overweight. I'm finding this state of affairs unsustainable, but to do anything about it, frankly, I need some kind of goal. Rather than decide to reward myself with some kind of treat, I thought I'd get sponsored. That way, I can't suddenly decide that I don't actually want the treat, and start eating piles of lovely cake instead. So, this New Year Weight Loss Pursuit Programme will not only benefit my overworked valves, but also The Lavender Trust, who fund support services for younger women with breast cancer.

So, I'm sure that you're keen to see me slimmer, leaner and generally less lardy, and even more keen to see a breast cancer charity benefit as a result. Well, if you pledge something via this site, the Lavender Trust will get your money speedily, and if you're a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added on automatically.

So, do sponsor me, if you feel like it. The plan is to lose 3 stone by June 1st, so that's what, 42lbs over 21 and a half weeks. 2lbs a week, then, which I'm told is a reasonably safe rate of weight loss. So if you pledge, say, 10 quid, that would be about 25 pence per pound, which is about the same as a bag of carrots costs, co-incidentally. Pledges of less than 10 quid are welcome, obviously.

I'll no doubt ramble on about the weigh-ins, my hunger, and my progress, or lack of it, on my blog.

And now I'm off to try and start enjoying the rich, luxurious taste and texture of Ryvita.
