Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

So, why am I doing this:  Well, I am due to disappear to Afghanistan later this year and wanted to raise some money for charity.  I chose Help for Heroes to help support thwm in the work they are doing to support wounded soldiers returning from War Zones.

I then needed to find a challenge and being a keen cyclist I was looking for a memorable route.  The Walney to Wear cycle route - http://www.cyclingw2w.info/ - is just that.  172 miles across the southern edge of the Lake District, the Pennines and the North York Moors.  To make the challenge slightly more diffucult I have decied to try and complete the route within 24 hours.  I will set off from Walney early in the morning and try to reach Whitby in time for some Fish and Chips that evening.  If everything goes according to plan I should be able to do it in 15 hours!  This is further than I have ever cyclled in my life and is going to hurt, a lot, but I believe that it should be worth it if I manage to generate a reasonable sum of money.  I am not setting a target, but it would be nice to raise over £1000 - whether I achieve this is another question.

I will be ably supported by my friends Jo Parker Morgan and Charlotte Edgar, who will ply me with food and liquid, and hopefully some words of encouragement and uplifting music as I start to get tired.

The big question is, when am I going to do this?  Well, at the moment and provided that work permits, I am looking for a decent weather window in early to mid July.  It would be nice to have a bit of a tail wind and no rain, so I will remain flexible on the date for the time being, but it will happen in July.

So come on then, put your hands in your pockets, amke me suffer so that others can benefit!!!

Thanks in anticipation, please pass this onto your friends as well.
