My story

We would like your help please. On 1st October we board the night flight toNairobi. The purpose of our trip is to climb Kilimanjaro; as you know it is the highest free standing mountain in the world and its summit at just short of 20,000 feet is the highest point on the African continent.

We know all the FAQs....

Why are two men who "ought to know better at their age" engaging on such a trip?

Will they survive in tents for goodness sake?

Do Vodafone have a mast their (yet)?

How will they charge their laptops?

What is the shopping like up there?

Will the Prada loafers stand the strain?

...and other critical issues of life and death

Well, of course like so many others before us and like many more to come we are doing this to make a difference to someone else's life. [No, not giving our families a welcome break from our company, that is not what we mean....]

We are doing this to raise money for the admirable Depaul Trust which we know some of you support already. Details of its excellent work appears to the left on this page and still more can be found at www.depaultrust.org

In short, Depaul Trust specialises in working in communities where poverty and long-term unemployment have resulted in generations of social exclusion and high rates of homelessness. Whilst their work with homeless young people continues to be a central part of what they do, they have developed new services and opened new projects that not only help individual young people but - crucially - whole communities where homelessness and anti-social behaviour are rife.

Today, the Depaul Trust is tackling the issues that are most important to and in one way or another impact on all our lives - excluded young people some of whom who get mixed up with drink and drugs and then through petty offending they enter a vortex of offending and suvival.

Depaul Trust provides young people and communities with the services that prevent these problems from happening. At the same time, they continue to work with individual young people who have fallen through the safety net and lack the most basic needs, such as somewhere to live and something to eat.

Stand back and consider for one moment the Depaul Trust's successes with the homeless young and vulnerable all over the UK,  without regard to colour or creed, religion or belief, sex or societal position and we are sure you will see exactly why we are foresaking our blackberries and making this effort.

Please support Depaul Trust: donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Depaul Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re ataxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks

Richard and Ben
