My Ride for Cancer. This web page has been put together to explain what this is all about and who's going to gain from it.About me.Just a few words to give you an idea of my background. My name's Daniel Cave and I'm 31 years old and married to Maria. We also have a daughter called Lucy, a dog and two cats. I've recently started cycling again and I can't get enough of it. In my teens and early twenties I spent countless hours riding around Dorset cycling and made a few friends on the way. What this site's all about. In December 2002 I lost my grandmother, Dorothy, who we all miss to cancer. She had complained of stomach pains and trouble with her digestion for some time but none of us thought it would be something as terminal as this. It was something which I personally didn't expect and which I dealt with in my own way, but the affect of her passing had a profound affect on the other members of our family. My gran was a very loving and caring woman who took on all our trobles as her own, often spending a lot of time thinking about how best to resolve these issues. She was the granmother to six of us, Rachel, Laura, James, Anthony, Natalie and myself, and mother to Christopher, Teresa and Richard. Our great aunt Pam who lives in the USA said good bye to her sister too. We all shared her love and were not prepared for her departure from this motal coil. I think a lot of her suffering was done in silence as she didn't want any of us to take pity on her or feel burned by her illness as it was quite late on that it was diagnosed that she had cancer. While most of us couldn't do a vast ammount to help her execept help make her comfortable, it wasn't until a few months ago during a ride that I felt a sense of need to do something positive to help others, families and sufferers of Cancer. It was at that point I deceided to do a charity ride for Cancer research in honour of my gran and at the same time to help charities and medical research to find a cure for cancer.I've also had some friends who's relatives have lost family members to cancer and how it's affected them. The Ride.Having been a very keen cyclist in the past and having partially hung up my wheels for 8 years, I have deceided to ride 100 miles around Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire for charity (Imperial Cancer Research). This I plan to do on Sunday 25th April, 2004. The route will be confirmed and posted on this site soon.Sponsorship.I have contacted Cancer Research and they have given me the necessary paperwork to fill out so that people will sponsor me honestly and that I'm not doing it for my own personal gain. The only people who will benefit from this is Cancer Research and the people who benefit from their work in the long run.Further to this, I plan to get some commercial sponsors as well as personal ones. If you would like to sponsor me, please email me at dan@deis.demon.co.ukSupport and MotivationSome of my friends who cycle that I've spoken to about this ride have said that they'd either sponsor me or ride the 100 miles with me which is really going to help loads. The last time I rode the distance was back in 1992 and so I figured that I'm mentally up to it, but not quite up to par physically, currently sporting about 2 stone in excess weight which I plan to loose by april. If you have any comments please email me at dan@deis.demon.co.ukPlease sponsor me online. It's the most efficient way for me to raise funds for my charity. If you are a UK taxpayer your donation will be increased by almost a third at no cost to you. Both myself and my chosen charity really appreciate your donation. Any amount will make a difference but please try to give generously! Many thanks.Daniel.
