What's so special about PACE? At PACE children with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy find their own voice, walk their own steps and discover that they can fully enjoy everyday life and become active members of society. Cerebral palsy is a physical condition affecting movement as a result of damage to the brain. We believe in each child's ability to learn despite their disability. We provide a loving and inspirational environment, motivating children with physical disabilities to work hard at achieving their goals. Our focus is on 'educating for life' - developing a child's social, emotional, communication, academic and motor skills. Every child's achievement is a direct result of our unique staff team, all working together in one centre with the child at its heart. PACE is a charity inspired by the principles of Conductive Education, a system which emphasises that children develop as a whole. One in every 400 children in the UK is affected by cerebral palsy. Your support enables us to reach children and families though intensive programmes, training and outreach. We depend on donations from trusts, businesses, groups and individuals.

My story

RIPCOR are a team of seven friends united by a collective desire to support our chosen charity, a love of cycling and the odd isotonic beer. In 2009 we are at it again, so... will you be our friend for a fiver? We know times are hard and that sponsorship comes less easily, so we need to go for volume. We're not choosy - we'll accept 'friends of friends', or even children, aunties and uncles of 'friends of friends' - we just want a name and a fiver. The point is that we need to find 1,000 friends willing to donate a fiver or more to raise our minimum £5,000 to give to the PACE centre, and justify our place on the cycling team (Aylesbury to Edinburgh, 450 miles, 5 days). There may be seven of us, but over 140 friends willing to sponsor a fiver is still a lot to find! What do you get in return? Not only do you get the warm glow of having sponsored such a worthy cause, and the joy of picturing us physically suffer on a 450 mile cycle ride, you also get your own unique 'friend number', and photograph of that number, which you will see on www.1000friends.co.uk www.1000friends.co.uk . If you sponsor us more than a fiver, we'll invite you to name some of your friends or family that you'd like to be included. Not clear? Just sponsor us now, state your chosen number(s) and name(s) and see the magic unfold (we aim to update the website at least once a week). What number would you choose and why? Like the idea? Tell a friend - we'd happily accept them as a friend of ours, as we said, we're not choosy. Please note that justgiving only charges a percentage of the tax it recovers, not a commission on the sponsored amount, so your entire fiver will go to the PACE centre.
