IMPORTANT NOTE: The Severn has very dangerous tidal flows, eddies, whirlpools, quicksands, mudbanks and other unique dangers whch present serious life threatening risk to anyone in or near the waters. THE ATTEMPT WILL BE ACCOMPANIED AT ALL TIMES BY TWO LIFEBOATS. NO ATTEMPT SHOULD EVER BE MADE TO SWIM IN THESE WATERS.
I'm attempting to swim the Severn as part of fundraising activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the SARA Sharpness lifeboat station in support of their continuing activities saving lives on the tidal waters of the Severn and beyond.
The route is planned to start on the west side of the river near the first Severn crossing and take advantage of the flooding tide to cover the distance upstream to Sharpness.Donations are very greatly appreciated and will provide much needed motivation during the attempt!
Also come along to the Sharpness open day on 15th Aug 2010 to support the swim and see what else is happening.
