The Christie - Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride · 4 July 2010 ·

The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Your support can help us to fund life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.

Story

I did it! Took me 3 hours, 16 minutes 51 seconds which is several minutes faster than my previous best time even for 60 miles and this was 61.4 miles! I even managed to cross the line doing about 30 MPH...

Tired legs and an absolutely nutty headwind meant the ride home was somewhat slower but I also rode 67.6 miles home

Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me :)

<snip />

I'm doing the Manchester to Blackpool ride on the 4th of July and once again I'm riding for The Christie... however, this year I'm going to ride back home too! The goal is to be one of the first riders to leave Manchester (probably around 6am) and get to Blackpool roughly three hours later then turn around ride another 60 miles... I was inspired seeing riders do this last year and 120 miles is a decent target to aim for. This means I'll be in the saddle for about 7 hours, burn approximately 6,000 calories, drink at least 6 litres of water and probably be a couple of kilos lighter by the time I get home...

I'm riding to work twice a week and longer rides at weekends building up to at least 1 (more if time permits) 120 miles ride before the event itself... so far (it's late June) I've notched up over 1700 miles this year which is well over four solid days in the saddle, burning in the region of 95,000 calories which in easier to visualise terms is the same as 1200 shots of Jack Daniels!

My target is to raise £500 and my employer Barclays will match donations so if I am able to achieve my fundraising goal then I could raise in the region of a grand for Christies. Any donation is welcome, even a pound makes a difference so thank you sincerely for any size donations you are able to spare make.

Cheers - Robert...
