The Ayrshire Hospice - Land o'Burns Midnight Walk · 16 May 2009 ·

We provide expert care and support for people across Ayrshire living with life-shortening illness, and those closest to them. Our aim is to help people live well, with comfort, dignity and choice. Every person and moment matters - and with our community’s support, we’re here when it matters most.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Please have a look at my personal message below and find out why I am looking to raise money for the Ayrshire Hospice. They are amazing and here is our story....

My wife of 30 years, Irene, was diagnosed 3 years ago with breast cancer-met bone.

Unfortunately whilst on holiday last September she took ill and was diagnosed with a metastasis brain tumour.

Irene has not responded well to treatment, and after a months stay in hospital she was admitted to The Ayrshire Hospice in early November 2008.

For those of you who know Irene, you will smile when I say that not only is she a determined “Lady”, but has a tendency to do things her own way.

You will be pleased to know that she has continued in this vein, and has put the family on a wild rollercoaster, and made the doctors almost as confused as she is. – Could we have expected anything less?

Mere words cannot express my thanks for the wonderful care being given to Irene during this difficult time, and in an effort to put something back my daughter Aimee and myself are doing the 13.1 mile Land O’ Burns Midnight walk.

Thanks for listening – and please – make a donation – no matter how small to this fantastic charity.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far.   Due to everyone's generosity, I have set a new target, which I am sure we will meet if not exceed.

The training has started, and if I can lose a bit off the waistline as well as improving my fitness, then that would be an extra bonus.

I'm sure that many of you are aware that sadly Irene passed away on Saturday 21st March 2009. Irene was much loved by myself, family and friends,

She was a BRIGHT FLAME that touched all our lives and hearts, she is sorely missed, but will always be remembered.

A collection was taken at Irene's funeral in aid of the hospice, and the total raised was 272.71 pounds. On behalf of the hospice - Thank You

Once again I have raised the target figure - The bad news is that I have strained the tendons on my ankles, which has limited my training (and expected weight lose) - but fear not I have rested, Iced, taken painkillers, experimented with different types of supports and bandages, bought a pair of walking boots - and do you know what - I think i'm B- - - - - - D. I will complete the course even if I'm pushed in a wheelchair!!! - There is no way you lot are getting your money back

Yet another update - with only days to go I have had to raise my target figure again - thank you all. AIMEE has raised almost a £1000 as well. She organised a non uniform day at her school in Padua and raised 670 euros. She was also interviewed on the regional Italian TV news.. Oh by the way the old legs are holding up and should by alright on the night as they say.

Only 36 hours to go and the neves and adrenaline are begining to build!! - Yet again I have raised the target figure. I hope to collect approximatly £260 from Hourstons staff on friday which will bring me close to that figure , and if my brother Matt can A/ put his hand in his pocket and B/ figure out how to work this site we should make it.

Once again a huge thank you to everyone who has donated, and given messages of support
