Story

The hairy dude on the left there will be hairy no longer - and it's all for a good cause! In the name of Cancer Research, as of 21st February 2012 (Shrove Tuesday) Rob McDermott is giving up his hair for Lent. That means 47 days of an intimate relationship between his scalp and a Braun electric razor - the mother of all charity head-shaves!

We all have someone in our lives who has been touched by cancer one way or another. Passed friends and relatives, those who have had scares, and those who have been lucky enough for treatment to have put the big C in remission. This is for them. And for all of us. Maybe one day we can find a cure, and we can improve the chances of survival in the meantime.

The best bit is, you can support Cancer Research UK right here. Donating by JustGiving is easy and secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

As for the "rules", Rob will be shaving his head daily with an electric razor, removing stubble as best he can. As it's not a wet shave with a manual razor, there may be a shadow. He will remove his scalp hair and his beard and will keep his head and face bare from the evening of 21st February 2012 until 8th April 2012. Easter Sunday will be the day of his final shave.

Please find it in your hearts to give generously.

UPDATE 21st FEB: It's off! It took an hour to do in the end. Photo and video to follow.
