My story

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

We will be going to Romania in December to take part in the Cry In The Dark - Christmas Shoebox Trip.

Cry In The Dark have built a residential care home called Casa Lumina for 22 young people with special needs.

Cry In The Dark have also built a hospice called Hospice Casa Albert and this provides care for 50 + children and young adults with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses.

* We will be Delivering shoeboxes to the homes of patients and their famillies.

Many of these families do not have running water, heating or electricity. Some live in appaling conditions, often living in one or two rooms, and life for them is a real struggle to survive.

The shoeboxes are given to families who often have to make the choice between buying food or fuel at Christmas time - buying presents is just not a priority.
A donation of £5.00 / £10.00 will go towards the purchase of small presents (necklaces and bracelets) for all the children that we will see.

We will be visiting patients in a state run asylum

The 100+ patients in the State instititution rarely have visitors and love to see us when we visit.

A small donation of £5.00 will go towards buying cakes and sweets for the patients .. a real treat for them and something they will be very grateful for.

We will visit orphans and terminally ill children.

The bigger the donation, the more opportunity we have to purchase some great presents for the children.

On a previous trip out to Romania, a friend donated £100 and I used that donation to purchase a bicycle for a child with a life threatening illness who had never owned any toys, let alone a bicycle ( it had always been their wish to own a bicycle ).

I  will never forget that childs reaction to receiving that present.  He was completely amazed .. and grinning from ear to ear !

We will also run a Christmas party for some of the children and be involved with the annual nativity play at Casa Lumina.

We want to make Christmas special for some children in Romania who otherwise would not receive anything in the way of presents, let alone the simple things like a hug or a smile.

For some terminally ill children, this may be their last Christmas .. we want to make it special for them and to let them know they are loved and valued.

We are very grateful for any amount that is donated and we can assure you it will be put to good use in buying presents and providing a lot of joy for those who we get to see.

Thank you

Cry In The Dark

Charity Registration No. 1071517

Cry in the Dark was established in 1998. In 2000 it built and opened a home for 24 children with special needs in Comanesti Romania. Casa Lumina is a home for life for these children who are now fast becoming young adults. At Casa Lumina the young people are treated with respect and receive the care and stimulation that each young person requires. Cry in the Darks second project in Romania is The Hospice Casa Albert project (Albert's House) and is providing community palliative care to a growing number of children and young people with incurable physical conditions with poor life expectancy, for example, childhood cancers or Leukaemia, congenital conditions such as muscular dystrophy, and HIV/AIDS and TB.
