We did it! Yesterday we all completed the run and actually quite enjoyed it. Alysoun and Hannah finished in a sedate 1 hour 12 minutes and 8 seconds and Jeremy in very commendable 56 minutes (8th fastest for his age and gender). Thank you to everyone who has donated so generously.

Archer's Story

Almost a year ago our son Archie was born and within twenty four hours of birth was rushed from the hospital where he was born in Kent to undergo emergency surgery in London. We had an anxious four hour wait while he was in theatre but thankfully he made it and after surgery for a suspected twisted gut and removal of his (very tiny) appendix he was admitted to the high dependency neonatal unit.

We had no idea how long Archie would be in hospital and began to concentrate on the logistics of being with him in London and maintaining a semblance of family life with our three little girls. We considered hotels, renting a flat or lodging with friends.

It was during the first weekend at King's that one of the neonatal nurses mentioned Ronald Mcdonald House. I had never heard of them but the Ronald Mcdonald House in Camberwell was our saviour.

RMHC was founded in 1984, it is an independent, registered Charity which provides free 'home away from home' accommodation for families with children in hospital and hospices across the UK, helping to keep family units together and encouraging families to support one another through what can be an emotionally challenging time. Today there are over 270 Ronald Mcdonald Houses and over 100 sets of Family Rooms around the world providing over 6,000 bedrooms a night for families with seriously ill children in hospital .

Thankfully after four weeks Archie was discharged and we said goodbye to the friends we had made whilst in the house. We will always be so grateful for the opportunity to stay in the Ronald Mcdonald House in Camberwell as it made an extremely stressful time more bearable for us as a family.

Since last year I have been determined to raise money for the Camberwell house, as a charity they are always in desperate need of help. Along with my Mum and Dad I will be running 10k starting at the new 2012 Olympic stadium in East London. PLEASE SUPPORT US BY DONATING.
