Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I am Ronnie Buchanan. I am 58 years of age and I am a retiring police officer
In June 2008 I am going to cross the Himalaya Mountains on a motorcycle like the one above
It does not seen that long ago that we were typing up this page and getting organised for the adventure. Well, we are back and then some. What a trip. Took me to my limits but it was worth every bumpy mile. Great bunch of people to ride with and great causes to raise money for. I sent back a daily story and I am told its worth a read. Please take some time and live the adventure - -its all there at www.itsalongwaydown.co.uk.
This is not a Holiday, its not a Trip nor even just an Adventure, its an absolute Challenge.
The challenge starts in Shimla India and finishes in Parwanoo 10 days and 1250 miles later. I will have spent an average 8 hours a day on an old style Royal Enfield motorcycle, will have crossed mountain deserts and ice cold rivers, rode along the side of cavernous ravines on rutted tracks in temperatures from zero degrees to 22 degrees. The risks are substantial from lanslides to extreme weather and at heights from 7000 feet to 16000 feet Acute Mountain Sickness is a reality that could lead to other life threatening high altitude illnesses.
The charities I am doing this for are really worthy of your support. The people they help suffer from chronic illnesses that could impact on someone you know.
I am paying for all the costs, so your donation will all go to the charity. Please give what you can.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Andrew's Hospice, Lanarkshire will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Follow the story at www.itsalongwaydown.co.uk
Many thanks for your support.
Ronnie
