Who am I raising money for and Why?
When I started in insurance a couple of years ago (?!) the first social event I remember going on was the Insurance Society of Edinburgh Pub Quiz in aid of the Insurance Charities. The Insurance Charities being a registered charity which gives vital financial and practical support to past and present employees of the insurance industry, and their dependent relatives, who are suffering financial hardship.
Although the Insurance Society of Edinbugh is still going strong and providing high quality educational and social events, the Insurance Charities has not had such a high profile here in recent years. This is a real pity as this is a very important charity for people working in our industry and continues to help many people both locally and nationally. I therefore want not only to raise cash but also to raise awareness of the charity so that if there is anyone in the Edinburgh area that could benefit from their support, they know it is there.
You can find further details of the charity here - www.theinsurancecharities.org.uk
So what am I doing to raise money?
On the 13th September 2009 I am going to take part in Pedal for Scotland - a 50 mile bike ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh. To the hardened distance cyclist that may not seem a lot but I can assure you I am not one of those - having only taken to cycling in January this year, the only thing that seems to have hardened is my butt (they have to make these seats better!). I do feel however that I have improved from my first painful 5 miles on that freezing cold 4th January so watch out Lance Armstrong, here I come!
So please will you sponsor this worthwhile cause? Every little helps (large amounts also welcome).
Thank you.
Ronnie
