Tony & Karen Evans have been very supportive of Alive & Well over the last few years. Tragically their son, Rory, died in a car crash between Christmas and New Year 2013. They want to create, something life-giving and positive to celebrate Rory’s life this will be “Rory’s Well”.  

 

We are currently identifying a well from our 2014 programme that can become “Rory’s Well”

 

Alive & Well have been working in the remote Pujehun region of Sierra Leone since 2010. We have a fully salaried local Alive & Well crew carrying out the work. The crew use a Dando 2000 percussion drilling rig and support vehicles to provide wells for the remote jungle villages.

 

Sierra Leone has the highest infant mortality rate in the world and the 3 highest maternal mortality rate. The terrible statistics are primarily caused by diseases from contaminated water. Our wells significantly improve the health prospects for both infants and mothers they also allow villagers to concentrate on life building activities rather than fetching and carrying water from contaminated rivers and pools.

 

Each well costs between £950 and £1,100 this includes the crew salaries, sinking the bore hole, lining the well, building a concrete surround and fitting an “India Mk II” hand operated pump.

 

Through donations and online giving Tony & Karen hope to raise enough money to sink “Rory’s Well” over the new few months. 

 

All UK operations are voluntary therefore100% of donations will go towards the work in Sierra Leone.
