Hi! My name is Rosanna Ter-Berg and in June 2009 I will be climbing to the base camp of the world's highest mountain (Mt. Everest) in an attempt to reach a fundraising target of £3000 for the childrens development charity, ChildReach International.
Childreach International is a fantastic charity and Mount Everest is a massive Mountain ... below is a little more info about each of them to let you know what you would be donating to..
Everest
Everest Base Camp stands at just over THREE miles VERTICALLY above sea-level. It's a pretty hefty trek!
It will take three plane journeys followed by 14 days on foot to get to our destination.
Temperatures range from 20C in the capital, to -20C at the top (colder than the freezer in your kitchen.)
The Everest region is the home of the Sherpa and has only been open to Westerners since after the Second World War.
On our way to the camp myself and the rest of the team are going to be delivering school and health camp supplies to some of the cut-off communities in the mountains.
Those who know me will appreciate why, when the opportunity came along for me to take part in such a unique, amazing and slightly crazy challenge, I had to take it!
Although we're not going to the summit, my body will still be climbing at altitudes higher than most skydivers will dare venture!
I am determined, and given several weeks of hard training/fundraising (after I get my pesky dissertation out of the way) I will succeed in reaching my goal!
CHILDREACH INTERNATIONAL
There is some more information about the fundamental aims of Childreach to the left of this page. Unlike other global charities, they are so focussed on these goals that a huge 96% of the money they receive goes directly to achieving them, rather than to staff or administration.
They provide schools, homes, clean water and food, vaccinations, hospitals and safety to thousands of children in countries such as Nepal, India, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana and Pakistan.
Please help by giving anything you can, bearing in mind:
£2 will pay for a mother and child in Nepal to be vaccinated from ALL major life threatening diseases.
£5 pays for an orphan in Tanzania to attend a vocational training centre for an entire year where he/she can work towards a recognised qualification and a brighter future.
£400 pays for a water pump to be installed in a village in Africa so children can get clean and safe water.
£600 will feed 100 children solidly for four months in India!
PLEASE DONATE! SOMETHING THAT MEANS SO LITTLE TO YOU WILL MEAN SO MUCH TO SOMEONE ELSE!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ChildReach International gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you so much for your time,
Rosie.
(If you leave your name when donating or email me I be able to send you pictures and updates from the expedition)
