Dear friends, this summer, I plan to retrace my steps to take the same journey I took in 1989 from Bamunanika to Kiwoko where I first met my Irish parents. In 1989 when I first made that journey, I was a desperate young girl, without a home, stripped of all dignity, unwanted, and despised by the people I loved and trusted the most. I had lost everything except perhaps my life. That journey led me to Ian and Robbie Clarke, two people who took a wild chance at loving me. It led me to the beginning of my nursing career, it lead me to a place of hope. It was the beginning of my restoration as a girl, and it was a second chance at having a family and hope for the future. That journey set me on a path of discovering a new me. It gave me wings to fly and to live out my faith in a manner that was liberating. This summer I will walk again for the following reasons:
- To raise money so I can help set up a nursing scholarship fund to assist some young people in Uganda whose desire is to go to nursing school but cannot afford the cost. Many of you are aware that when I returned home in 2005, I helped set up a nursing school which eventually formed a foundation for International Health Sciences University. I, together with so many other people, am proud to see this project continue to flourish. I am also aware that there are so many young people who are in the same predicament I was in when I took my journey in 1989. I would like to be able to establish a revolving fund/a scholarship fund that keeps on giving, into which graduates and friends of the nursing school can continue to invest so as to empower and bless others.
- To raise money for Hope Ward—http://suubitrust.org.uk/home.html
- And lastly I will be walking to throw more light on the efforts to stop ritualistic child sacrifice in Uganda. So many children are murdered as part of the witchcraft rituals that were a large part of my childhood upbringing. I want to add my voice to many others to increase the platform and represent those that are vulnerable and captives of this practice.
So join me in celebrating many years of freedom, restoration, growth, the courage to heal, second chances, and finding my voice and purpose. Your support over the years has kept me grounded and I deeply appreciate your partnership in this journey. My goal is to raise 15,000.00 USD for Hope ward and hopefully 10,000.00 USD or more to set up the scholarship fund for a total of 25,000.00 dollars or more. I am aware that most of my friends may be facing harsh economic times but even the smallest amount means so much to those who will benefit from these funds in Uganda.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and for your support.
