My story

Hi & thanks for visiting our page.

As many of you may be aware our General Manager at The Chimes, Tony Dunn, passed away very suddenly in January 2012. Tony was a huge supporter of local charities throughout Hillingdon & one which was very close to his heart was the local Women's Refuge run by Hestia. Numerous times security were sent to help him remove boxes & suitcases of unwanted items from his car ready to be collected by the local team.

Losing Tony has really put into perspective for Donna & myself the importance of giving back to the wider community and having met with the team at Hestia on numerous occasions we felt it fitting that we should support them by completing this challenge.

The challenge itself has been organised by our colleagues 'oop north' in Newcastle for another charity remembering another of our colleagues, Tim Lamb, and if you would rather donate to this cause then please follow this link:

https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/capshopwalk

However, they have given us permission to come on this walk but support a charity close to our & Tony's heart. So a massive thank you for this.

The challenge is to walk the entire length of Hadrian's Wall (84 miles) in 4 days over the August Bank holiday. Neither of us consider ourselves hikers but we are hopefully fit enough to manage this ok though I think rather a lot of Compede plasters will be needed.

Any small support for you, our friends & families, will go a great way to supporting this fabulous cause which is detailed below.

Thanks again for your support

Rosie (Operations Manager) & Donna (Marketing Manager)

Hestia Domestic Abuse Services e Hesti Ser

About Hestia

Hestia has been providing support to vulnerable people in London for over 40 years.  We support adults and children with a range of support needs, including those at risk of domestic violence; trafficking; enduring mental health conditions; HIV and AIDS; at risk of offending and older people.

What is a refuge?

A refuge is a temporary safe house where women and children stay to escape from abuse. The location is confidential so that the woman will not be found.  Professional, dedicated staff provides the women with emotional and practical support to rebuild their lives.

Who are our services for

They are for women and children who are in immediate danger of:

· Physical Abuse

· Psychological and Emotional Abuse

· Financial Abuse

· Sexual Abuse

· Forced Marriage and Honour based violence

· Female Genital Mutilation

· Trafficked Single Women

Our aim is to enable women to safely resettle back into the community

feeling empowered and to make positive independent choices.

How You Can Help

Support and sponsor the walkers for the Hadrian’s Wall Walk Challenge.

Our refuge for women and children fleeing domestic violence and our safe house for trafficked women in the London Borough of Hillingdon desperately needs your help.   We need a welfare fund to assist the women if they need immediate financial support when they arrive at the refuge/safe house to buy food/transport.  The women and children would also like to have the opportunity to participate in social, fun and educational activities during the school holiday periods.

Thank you for your help.
