                Thank you for visiting the
    Deben Rotaract Technology Famine site!

A group of Deben Rotaractors have decided to give up technology for 24 hours and live in an eco-friendly way.

No mobile phones! No heating! No computers! No TV!

How will they survive?!

The idea is to highlight exactly how reliant we are on technology, and the benefits and home comforts it provides. We hope to raise money for Practical Action, to help provide sustainable technology to those who don't have what we consider basic necessities, such as electricity, running water, sanitation, food on demand, shelter and transport.

Practical Action is an organisation that was founded in 1966 with the aim of bringing real and sustainable improvements to peoples lives. Practical Action do this by working with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives for today and generations to come.

They focus their efforts, skills and resources around four international programmes:

    1) Reducing vulnerability
Helping reduce the vulnerability of poor people affected by natural disasters, conflict and environmental degradation.

    2) Making markets work for the poor
Helping poor people to make a better living – by enabling producers to improve their production, processing and marketing.

    3) Improving access to services
Helping poor communities gain access to basic services – like safe, clean water, food, housing and electricity.

    4) New technologies
Helping poor communities respond to the challenges of new technologies, helping them to access simple effective technologies that can change lives forever.

Your donations large or small can make a difference, for example:

£15 could provide tools to help install a new tapstand in Kenya

    £30
could buy a smoke hood for a family in Nepal

    £50
could buy jute panel walls for 8 flood resistant houses in              Bangladesh
