My story

SAILING ROUND THE UK FOR CHARITY

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Ray Oliver and at the end of April 2008 I set sail on one of the biggest challenges in my life, a two year sail round the UK in my yacht Christine-Marie.

To 'spur me on' and provide a focus to complete my trip I am supporting Marie Curie Nurses.

My story of how the cruise came about, along with details and photos from each leg of the passage, is available on my web page that can be reached on the following link:   http://www.roundukcruise.org.uk/

It has been a fantastic adventure so far.  I set sail in April 2008 sailing anti-clockwise round the coast visiting ports and harbours along the way.  I reached my most northerly point in the Orkney Islands in April 2009.  I am currently (June 2009) at Largs, SW Scotland having sailed over 2000M, visiting 70 ports along the way and passing some stunning scenery.   I sail for N Ireland shortly on my 750M homeward passage to Lymington by the end of the year.

The charities I plan to support are listed on separate pages and full details of the work of the charities will be found there. (click on 'christine marie' tag below to browse my other charities)

Marie Curie Nursing Appeal
I have always respected the work of these nurses, helping the terminally ill and their families.

Rethink (Formally National Schizophrenia Fellowship)
I lost my daughter at the age of 18 to this mental illness. It has a terrible impact on the individual and their families. NSF helped me through a difficult period in my life.

RNLI
I support 'lifeboats' whose RNLI volunteers put their own lives at risk saving others at sea.  I hope I never have to call on them in an emergency, but knowing they are there is re-assuring.

Please sponsor me and select the charity of your choice or divide your donation between them.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Nurses will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your personal support, to my family, friends, sailing crew and RYA training instructor at Moonfleet Sailing without whose help this adventure would not be possible.
