Help us save the last surviving colony of the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary

In late 2009 Butterfly Conservation purchased Rowland Wood, an 80 acre wood in East Sussex next to our existing Park Corner Heath Reserve.

This area of woodland supports the last surviving colony of the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary in South East England.

Butterfly Conservation was able to act quickly by utilizing money held in our Reserves Acquisition Fund but we now need to replenish this fund and to raise additional funding to meet the cost of our 20 year habitat restoration plan for the woodland.

Please can you help by making a donation to the Rowland Wood Emergency Appeal?

Following the first phase of habitat restoration last year, the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillaries immediately demonstrated their survival instincts by spreading into the newly opened rides from the adjacent colony on our Park Corner Heath Reserve.

Rowland Wood also supports other important species of butterfly and moth, including the White Admiral, Grizzled Skipper and Silver-washed Fritillary, as well as a large variety of other wildlife.

Under our care it will become home to many more species.

We need to raise at least £60,000 to pay for urgent woodland management that will allow us to restore and improve habitat at Rowland Wood.

Every pound you give will make a difference and will help us to reverse the dreadful declines suffered by this beautiful butterfly.

Rowland Wood is part of the Vert Wood complex, once famous for being a butterfly and moth paradise. We now have the opportunity to bring back part of this magical place to its former glory.

Please will you make a donation and help us achieve this vision?
