Swim a mile in open water to help save a life.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to because I’ll be doing just that in Lake Windermere later this year and my sponsorship will be going to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.  As a superstitious sailor, I find it hard to walk past a Lifeboat collection box and when I saw that the Great North Swim is for the RNLI then I knew I would have to give it a go.

My wife, Annie and her sister Helen will also be doing the swim so really it’s a 3 for 1 offer!

15/09/09 : We all completed the swim on what was a fantastic summers day in the Lake district. There were 6000 swimmers over the two days with 250 starting every half hour making for a fantastic atmosphere in the sun. I just made my personal target of 30 minutes with 28 seconds to spare and decided that for next year I need to spend more time practicing how to swim in a straight line. Yes I think I'll be doing it again next year so if anyone would like to join us, please let me know and I'll keep you informed.

28/08/09 : We have passed the target but now your donations make the effort even more worthwhile. Although unlikely, we could have made a donation and stayed at home so now your money is making a difference to the RNLI. Thanks again.

12/08/09 : Thanks for your donations, my glass is now half full and on the right heading ... £100 :)  The pool Annie trains in has closed for maintenance and I'm on holiday this week so we're taking our swim suits to the beach to keep up the training.
10/08/09 : I'm sure there will be visual proof but it may not be very pretty! I think they provide us with a timing chip so that will also be proof but I may keep that quite.

04/08/09 : Thanks for your donation Rob and I'm sure I heard Rob say that he will be taking part next year. Are there any more interested from Resource Group?
