Story
Hi All - Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Most of you will know that my wife Kate's father was tragically killed whilst cycling with his friends. Involved in the same incident was his friend Pete who was given life saving road side medical care by a BASICS Hampshire doctor. To be honest I did not know of BASICS and the work they did - did you?
BASICS Hampshire support the Hampshire ambulance service with specialist out of hospital medical help during serious and major incidents. Members number 30 doctors and 1 nurse, all providing their time on a voluntary, unpaid basis. All equipment and training is paid for by local fundraising.
Well Derek - He is sadly missed by both friends and family. For those who cycled with (or raced against) will have found Derek to be truely inspirational. As a father in law he wasn't bad either!!! To that end this has been a good reason to get off my backside and try and support a vital local charity. During 2010 I/we intend to enter a number of events to motivate people to give a little (and some alot - you know who you are)! The events in the diary thus far are:
March 14 - England Kilomathon - 16.3 Miles from Nottingham to Derby
May 23 - Edinburgh Marathon - 26.2 Miles
September 19 - BUPA Great North Run - 13.1 Miles
October 23 - BUPA Great South Run - 10 Miles
