My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. I ran the Great North Run half marathon in memory of my nephew Seb Brown, who died suddenly in March 2006 aged 21. Seb suffered from an arthritis-related condition called lupus and had been making plans to raise money for this cause. The Arthritis Research Campaign fund hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of research into lupus every year, so we felt they would be a good cause to support.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Arthritis Research Campaign will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

I managed the run in 2 hours, 24 minutes 11 seconds. I was aiming for anything under 2 hours 30, so I was very pleased with the result for my first half marathon. Conditions were great, sunny at the start with a refreshing shower half way round. After ten miles of steady running I let rip and felt like I flew the last 3 and a bit miles, with the Red Arrows filling the sky with red, white and blue smoke over my head. As they reached the top of a loop I suddenly felt very sad for the loss of Seb, and the reason fo the run became very clear. Then I saw the sea and started the sprint for the finish!

Many thanks for your support,

Kim Dent-Brown
