The Lakeland 100 takes place on Friday 31st July 2009.  It starts in Coniston in the Lake District at 7:30 pm and I have 40 hours to complete the 103 mile off-road race.  That's not enough time to walk it non-stop; you've got to run.  My target time is 30 hours.  The route follows footpaths and bridleways around the Lakes and there's a total height gain of 7000m - it's tough.

Why Cancer Research UK?  Well, mum, John, Carole, Deb, Dave, SJ, Laura, Trevor, Tracey and Mark are all people that I know who have been hit by cancer.  Most are still with us thankfully.  Hopefully, raising money this way will make a difference to the one in three of us that will get cancer at some stage in our lives.

Waving sponsor forms under people's noses turns me cold.  On-line is the way forward.  If you would like to donate, and make sure that the Inland Revenue do their bit, please just click on the buttons.  Thank you.

If you want to keep track of my training and make sure you're getting your money's worth, have a look at my blog at runbazrun.blogspot.com.

Challenge Update Sunday 2nd August 2009

I've just got back from the Lakes and I'm thrilled to tell you that I've done it!  I completed the course in 34 hours 52 mins and finished in 20th place.

This was probably the hardest challenge I've done.  The weather was atrocious during the first night, coinciding with the toughest sections, and it didn't stop raining until 11 am the following morning.

One of the things that kept me going was the tremendous support that I've had from friends and colleagues.  Thank you all.

Please keep the donations coming.

Baz.
