Story
Surgeon Jonathan Hobson is yet to discover
whether life begins at 40 but he knows his
running career certainly does.
Monday, April 28, 2014
He will celebrate his special birthday on Sunday, May 18, by taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester Run for the first time, to raise money for St Ann’s.
The 10km run will be unknown territory for the father-of-two from Didsbury who only took up running a few months ago and is far more at home in the operating theatre at Wythenshawe Hospital where he specialises in performing ear, nose and throat surgery. Wife Katie is a palliative care consultant at Salford Royal so the couple’s work in medicine has made them well aware of the hospice’s community work, including providing out-patient care at our Neil Cliffe Centre next to Wythenshawe Hospital.
Jonathan will be cheered on the route by sons Ollie (8) and Sam (6) before a birthday barbecue.
Jonathan said: “I did intend to do the run before my 40th but have missed it by a day. We’ll be having a family party the day before the run so I’ll have to make sure I don’t overdo the celebrations then.”
We still have places available for a £30 registration fee, with a minimum sponsorship of £150. Please contact events@sah.org.uk or call 0161 498 3631 for more information.
