Story
Hi
On Sunday 5th October I ran my 1st half-marathon - the biggest in the world - the Great North Run - in a time of 2 hrs 15 minutes.
I ran it for Bobath Scotland who help my handsome nephew RUFUS - and so far have managed to raise a huge amount of money - thanks to all my lovely friends and relatives.
I have put in some detail about how my charity Bobath Scotland help Rufus, please read on, but before all that, please give as much as you want to, because...
Running, walking, even sitting unaided is something Rufus will never experience
Unless U support Bobath
Food is tasty, a joy, a sensation - Rufus can't feed orally
Unless Bobath get the chance to help him
Speech & Language is a skill Rufus is just learning to understand. His own voice may never be heard
Rufus is special. He was born with quadriplegic athetoid CP, the rarest form, which means he finds it difficult to control all 4 of his limbs. He was diagnosed at 6 months, having struggled to feed & thrive. He is wheelchair bound, feeds through a tube, and has a cochlear implant to help him hear. (diagnosed as profoundly deaf at 15 months). He benefits from 6 week therapy sessions at Bobath 2 or 3 times a year. (Each 6 week stint costs about £2000.) These sessions aim to help him communicate, use a computer, start to potty train, even learn to feed orally... so many skills we take for granted. Please help me help Bobath who make a huge difference to lots of children and their families.
Rufus attends the local nursery and will go to mainstream school. He adds value to my life like any 3 year old does, he likes tickles, Bob the Builder, playing in the bath, has a very infectious laugh, loves people, and his smile warms my heart. He is my motivation for getting fit, and leaving the wine and chocolate until AFTER I've done my training session.
