MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY
I am running the Berlin Marathonon September 20th 2009 to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy, a charity that i have been made aware of from a very young age.
As we used to say 'I knew Martin Wood from the moment i was born', we grew up together the same as any young lads, we played football together, joined scouts together and watched Sheffield United FC (The Blades) together. However Martin had the muscular degenerative disease commonly known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (MD) This meant that as we got older he became less mobile and mundane tasks for me and you became much harder for him. Due to his strength of character he never let it get him down and he would always be the first to remind you if you were not pulling your weight, whether he was watching you play rugby or football or just to do with my loyalty to The Blades-The illness forced him into a wheelchair throughout his teenage years and sadly Martin passed away in 2003 aged 16.
During our childhood Sally, Martin's mum, ran a number of different marathons across the world supporting MD. So i find it only fitting that i continue this feat and support MD by running a marathon, the only difference being i will try to conquer the enemy in their own back-yard, Berlin.
As you can see this is a charity that has played a large part in my life and i would like to donate as much money towards the cause as possible.
This is where you come in! No amount is too big, and every little helps!
Please give generously!
