I'm going to be co-leading a team of 11 UK youth in Chile in and around the city of Temuco. We leave near the end of March and won't be back for 4 months. While out there we will being working on 2 projects alongside local christians.
Project 1: Gorbea is a small town with a population of about 15,000 which is located about 30 minutes away from Temuco. Gorbea is a relatively middle-lower class area and it’s main income comes from agriculture and timber production.
The project will involve helping to renovate and extend the main
meeting room at the ‘Iglesia del Dios Viviente’ church. The building,
which is about 25 years old, was built mostly from wood and is now
quite damaged and in need of repair. The team will be involved in
digging new foundations to extend the church, knocking down the wooden
part of the old main meeting room and helping to build new walls made
from brick to replace the old wooden walls.
Project 2: Temuco Coastal area During our second project we will be working alongside Pastor Exequiel Moreira from the ‘Iglesia del Señor’ church in Temuco. Pastor Exequiel has close contacts with some of the rural churches in the coastal area near to Temuco. we will live in Temuco but the actual project will involve short trips to work with churches in three different communities; Champulli, Poculón and Isla Lican.
In all three areas we will be involved in practical projects such as helping to build toilets and kitchen/dining rooms facilities for the churches. We will also have many opportunities for outreach and evangelism, including door to door visiting as well as being involved in the local church activities, with a focus on children’s work.
We would like to be able to take some gifts with us, and if you could donate something from this list it would be really appreciated.
-Donations of good quality, second hand clothes for all ages (especially for children).
-School/Sunday school materials: felt-tip pens, pencils, biros, crayons, coloured paper, blu-tac, glue-sticks etc.
-Puzzles, educational toys, duplo etc.
-A football (deflated!) and other sports equipment.
-UNO or similar card games that are easy to play.
I will do any odd jobs to gain donations towards this trip. No job is too messy, too much or too small.
