Sambat Trust: Our Story
Sambat Trust is delivering books, establishing school libraries, granting scholarships and training teachers in the Philippines. With your support, we can continue to provide the resources required for children to thrive in school.
Case study: donations in action
Mark is 15 years old and lives in Tanauan City, Batangas. He has a younger brother and sister.
Mark's parents come from Bikol, a largely agricultural area in the southeast of Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines. They moved to Batangas in 1996 with hopes of finding employment.
Mark's mother works as a laundry woman and his father is a carpenter, often travelling many kilometres to find work. He generally earns about 50 pesos a day when he works, a little over 70 pence or 1 US dollar. His father has worked only 8 days in the last two months.
Mark takes a total of nine subjects at school and consistently scores in the top 25% of his class, a great accomplishment given the social and economic disparities in his life. He wants to become a high school science teacher.
Both of Mark's parents have only an elementary level of education. They want more for their children.
With your continued support, Mark has the possibility of a promising future, free from poverty.
Mark takes it upon himself to work as hard as he does. His family looks to him to secure not only his future, but theirs as well.
