British 10K London Run 2009 · 12 July 2009 ·

A-CET is a small dynamic UK charity supporting vulnerable orphans & disabled youngsters through educational scholarships & targeted community school projects. Overseas it works through local charities run by ex-students. A-CET has low overheads and is run by experienced professional volunteers.

Story

Hello & thanks for visiting my page

** We all finished the race. My time was 47mins 40 sec. Thank you all for your donations and support!**

I have run the British 10K for A-CET, a small independent charity run with passion by dedicated, experienced, professional volunteers. I had a scholarship from A-CET during my undergraduate and graduate studies which played a major role for my current PhD research (on malaria) at the Sanger Institute and Cambridge University funded by the Wellcome Trust

Currently, I am a trustee and executive assistant to the CEO. I also take part in supporting A-CET students in Ethiopia and helping A-CET’s overseas awareness and fund raising.

Although Ethiopians are known for running, this is my first full 10K. I hope to use both copies of my running gene and finish in good time.

We are raising money in support of our elementary school upgrading projects. More than 90% of the money donated goes to projects/students.

How A-CET uses the money:

  - £500 will buy 25 local desks for 50 - 75 students who currently may well be sitting on stones
  - £6,000 will build a classroom for 50+ students
  - £11,000 is needed for Library/Activity Room; £6,000 for Staff Room & £6,000  for Store (all in one block)
  - £5,000 will build deep trench latrine for eight
-Schools also need other items like blackboards, notice boards, shelves, tables and chairs

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: African Children's Educational Trust (www.a-cet.org) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

Sammy

PS. We are planning to go to an Ethiopian restaurant after the race.  Give me a call or go to this page   if you think you may be coming.
