My story

Hey everyone,

As you all know by now, in 2009 i'm going to be walking from the west coast to the east coast of Canada.  Up until now, all my fundraising efforts have been for Cancer Research (you can still donate to cancer research for this event at www.justgiving.com/samthomas1 ).  However, recent family events have forced my attention to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or PSP.  It's a brain disease which entails the progressive death of neurons or nerve endings in the brainstem and basal ganglia above the nuclei in the brain.  This is the area that controls balance, movement, vision, speech and the ability to swallow.  No one really knows what causes PSP, although it's progession is similar to that of Alzheimer's- but this occurs in a different part of the brain.

Needless to say, i want to raise as much as i possibly can for both charities so please, give as much as you can and don't forget to tick the gift aid box!!!!

You can follow my progress online at http://notjustahike.blogspot.com/
