DAVID LESLIE BAILEY
17th May 1946 - 9th Feb 2009
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
My association with this harrowing disease has been brought about by my favourite uncle Dave, who was diagnosed with MND in March 2008.
After various tests and examinations Dave was cleared of the usual suspects, Cancer etc and we all breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn't something as serious as that. I can only imagine Dave and his wonderful wife Jackie's thoughts and fears when they were finally told that he had this vile disease.
I didn't know a great deal about MND, other than Stephen Hawking is a long time sufferer and David Niven who died from it, put his thumbs up to his family before he died and
this has since become the symbol for MND.
Since Dave's diagnosis, I've discovered that this disease is very much neglected and more research (which needs funding) is imperative if we're ever going to get even close to eradicating it. More effective treatment would be a start and for that we need to raise as much money as we can.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sheffield Institute Foundation for Motor Neurone Disease gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Sadly Dave passed away on 9th February 2009. The funeral was held on 23rd February and though it was very sad it was very moving. To see so many people just confirmed what I already knew, that Dave was popular, well liked, kind and loving. Jackie his dear, beautiful, devoted wife was amazing on the day and we've all talked about future fundraising.
Jackie will be walking on the beach in May and I will be running in the Great North Run in September with my husband and son- so keep donating....please. Thank you.
So please sponsor me now!
Thank you so much
Sandra
