My story
Thank you so very much - we have reached the target which means I now have the funds to go - thank you!
People have been so very kind and are still donating and fund raising ....this now means that I can put this towards a follow up trip (if I feel that is needed once I have visited and assesed the situation) or if I feel the money can be better used then the extra money could go towards some other need at the rescue centre.
What I can guarantee is that ALL funds will go either towards getting me out there to develop the project or materials needed.
Please read on to find out more about the project and also about some of the fundraising events.
Hi.....my name is Sandy Jay,
I am going to Ghana at the end of May 2012 to establish a support programme for 47 young people (aged between 6 - 13years old) who have been used for sex and job trafficking.
They have been 'rescued' from the work and are in a rehabilitation centre. They have been in the centre for a year. The traffickers had taken them away from their families so the charity is still trying to locate the families of the young people. They currently are receiving no formal help for the trauma...... which is where I come in.
My remit is to develop a support and training package for volunteers who work with the young people.
It will mean that I devise the project, training literature and programme here in England and then go over to Ghana to assess what is needed and then deliver and train the volunteers accordingly.
It feels so right to be doing this and I have so much energy for it....even though I do know it will be hard work: emotionally as well as physically.
I have been overwhelmed so far by the support and encouragement I have received from those I have told. People are coming up with all sorts of ideas to help.
In order to cover all costs, materials and expenses to get me out there I need to raise £3000 each visit. I would also like to be able to take out therapeutic materials for the project (relaxation CDs for the children, projective objects to tell their stories in a safe way) - this will need to come out of additional funds.
Ways you can help:
1. All donations will be very gratefully received and welcome, however small.
2. If you can also think of ways to make money and organise it - then that would be an even bigger bonus.
Without wanting to go into too many details...it truly is heartbreaking to know the details how these young people survive such trauma.
Soroptimist Group in Torquay
Thank you, thank you to the ladies from the Soroptimist group in Torquay who kindly donated £130 they made from their bangers and mash evening.
I visited the centre and was very touched by all the hard work that they do.
The group are always looking for new members so why not Google 'soroptimist' to find out more.
Carol’s cakes
….thank you so much Carol for the fantastic cakes you have been supplying – made from your own hands and ingredients bought from your own purse! I have been selling them at my local psychotherapy training days I attend (Limbus.org.uk). She made £85 for me. Many thanks indeed. Sandy
Pudding Night and Silent Auction in Bovey Tracey
Wow, what can I say......we have raised very nearly £800 from the pudding night! How fantastic.
Thank you to The Barlow’s for all their amazing support and to Graham Hamilton, Vicar From PPT church for the use of the church rooms......and to all the people that came with their puddings and the people who donated their services for the auction and last but not least to all of you who came and spent your money!
Another big THANK YOU to Helen, Gemma, Soph and Joan for all their love and thought and preparation that went into the evening they had in Chepstow raising money...a fantastic total of £200 made....thank you so much XX
Please don’t stop helping as all monies made now will either be taken over to the project and will directly go to the children involved or will go towards a follow up trip!.
......and thank you to all who have so generously donated directly through the site.
Warm wishes to you all
Sandy
