Hi folks,
Here's the low down on why I'm knackering my knees over the next 3 years in the name of charity:
2009: I ran the London Marathon and swore never to do another marathon ever again.
2010: My father was diagnosed with a rare form of Pancreatic Cancer, and hasten to say thereafter I've adopted his JFDI (Just F**king Do It) attitude to life. I promised to run one marathon every year until I'm 30... which has now turned into 2 a year! Yep, I'm running two marathons every year, albeit slowly, until (and including) 2013 - you do that maths. So here's the deal:
Forty years ago 3% of people diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer survived five years or more. That figure is still 3%.
The main focus of my doing these marathons is not to raise funds - though this will help my chosen charity - but to raise the awareness of Pancreatic Cancer, in all its forms, in the hope of raising this 3% survival figure.
If I only manage to encourage people to seek a second, third, even fourth medical opinion, I may stand a chance of saving one more life from this disease.
So come forth with me and my knackered knees in supporting the Development of Pancreatic Cancer Research charity.
Schedule:
2011: Paris Marathon 10th April 2011 - 26.2 miles. Done.
2011: Berlin Marathon 25th September 2011 - 26.2 miles. Done.
