Hi everyone
A few months ago Nicola Marshall contacted me about an event she was doing with her sister Sandra Moran called the Great North Sea Plunge. The idea was to promote safe sea swimming, experiencing the waters of our coastline while raising money for a good cause.
Somewhere along the line I too put myself forward to join in!
On September 18, 2010, a willing group of us will be jumping into the sea off the coast of Mablethorpe. The start of the swim will launch with a Mablethorpe Mermaid competition in the RNLI lifeboat. Someone will then blow the whistle as a signal for us to plunge into the water. In addition 200 metre markers will be placed in the sea and, not being a particularly strong swimmer I'm aiming to do at least five lengths, a total of 1,000 metres.
The event itself is raising money for a variety of charities including the RNLI, the Lincolnshire Elite Athlete Programme and the Leicester Children's Holiday Centre in Mablethorpe.
I have chosen to primarily support the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre in Skegness which gives holidays to children who may not normally get the chance to visit the seaside or go on holiday at all. To support this charity on behalf of my plunge please donate what you can online.
Anyone wishing to sponsor me in support of the other three charities can do by contacting me at the Target office where sponsorship forms are available. Call 01507 600200.
