This new lower target of £599 (it was previously  £20k) will help 20 or more people with eye operations and/ or medicines. Once we reach this target, we will do a new fundraising appeal for another batch of the same and  so on to try and fulfill our objectives below. Following our success with an eye camp for refugees in May 2008 (photos are on our website) , we decided to help more extremely poor people over the next 12 months. They will be a combination of refugees, people who beg for a living or are too poor to afford treatment. We have seen people who cannot see and cannot seek treatment because they have no money. Most of the operations will be in Bangladesh, but we hope to treat some people in Pakistan as well.

Our target is to help over 600 people with eye cataract operations and/or medicines. Each  eye  operation for cataracts will cost roughly £30 in Bangladesh.  Because we hope to do a mixture of  eye operations and normal eye treatments, we hope to treat MORE than 600. There will be some extra costs , like patient transportation and so forth. For example, in May , we not only had to look after the refugee eye patients, but also their family members who accompanied them (in order to look after them).

Anyway, work will be done on a rolling basis, as funds come in. We are not funded by any organisation and rely completely on your donations.
