SAVE THE RHINOS - The EAZA Rhino campaign 2005/6

EAZA (the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria), has 292 members in Europe, with similar networks covering the USA and Australasia.

Rhinos have been chosen as the subject of the current campaign, which began on the 7th of September and runs until end September 2006. Save the Rhino International, is working with EAZA as European Partner, to develop and run the EAZA Rhino Campaign.

The main focus of save the Rhinos is fundraising in support of a minimum of 13 selected rhino conservation projects in Africa and Asia. A goal of 350.000 euros has been set for this campaign. All the money raised will go to the selected projects, directly supporting the conservation and survival of rhinos in the wild. But the campaign also aims to create awareness of the threats that rhinos face in the wild. Zoos and aquaria, both with and without rhinos in their collection, are invited to join the campaign. Throughout the coming year, all around Europe, EAZA members will present the Save the Rhinos campaign to their visitors and enlist their support. With over 125 million people visiting EAZA members' zoos each year, the potential to reach the general public is enormous.
