My story

Scotland on Rails, and the Ruby community at large, is committed to doing some good in the world.

We're hosting a one-day introduction to ruby and rails with Chad Fowler and Marcel Molina Jnr on Thursday 26th March. The conference-proper runs Fri/Sat 27th/28th. The main point is to give a good overview of basics for people attending the conference, although conference attendance is not a prerequisite for the tutorial day.

Given it's Chad and Marcel, we're sure there'll be stuff to learn for more advanced students also.

This page is setup to collect any donations made during the conference, either for the tutorial or just because you feel like giving something.

To attend the tutorial, simply make a donation >= 75UKP here, print out a receipt and bring it on the day. If you are attending the conference, you might also consider joining the conference google group at http://groups.google.com/group/scotland-on-rails-conference-2009

All the tutorial proceeds are paid directly to CHAS (The Childrens Hospice Association Scotland) - the speakers are donating their time for free and the conference ticket pays for the room (hosted at the conference campus). You can sign up by making a minimum donation of 75UKP here and bringing your receipt on the day.

We're suggesting UK taxpayers say no to the question about whether they are buying a ticket for something (enabling GiftAid) as we're just suggesting a minimum donation, but you can make your own call on whether you feel we're stretching the definition of voluntary.

Many thanks for your support. We raised over 3000 UKP last year.
