The Reason: Some of will know, and most of you wont, that my younger sister, Louise, died from cancer a year ago after putting up a long and courageous fight against the disease. So i thought that i would try to do a little bit to raise some money for Cancer Research to help find treatments to fight the disease and give hope to others.
The Event: I have always found physical endeavours challenging but this will be my the first time that i have done a triathlon at this distance (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and a wee half marathon to finish!) and it will prove to be a big challenge to me ..... especially trying not to drown during the swim! More details can be found at http://www.hayletri.co.uk/middle.html
The Aim: Most of you will know someone close to you, now or in the future, with the disease, so i would ask that you give what you can to try to raise as much as we can. You can also be assured that you are getting your moneys worth as i am spending an inordinate amount of time on a very uncomfortable saddle!
The Result; 5:34 > The day started dull, overcast and wet but it didn't deter 150 or so brave souls throwing themselves into the water for a nice swim. I had a leisurely transition having made the decision not to race but to survive comfortably. Out onto the bike for a few laps to Lands end and back to the aptly named Mount Misery before finally heading back to transition again. I felt good on the run and just plodded along trying to keep my heart rate down as it was back and forth to Penzance. The leisurely pace did however give me a chance to chat to people and and try to admire the very flat course with nice sea views to one side and the railway line on the other!! then back to the finish and home for tea and medals.
Hopefully when it's all totalled, we'll have raised about £1300 so a big thank you to you all.
