======================================
ServeDirect is a Christian based charity that seeks out local visionary projects in under-developed parts of the world to come alongside local people to provide practical help.
Our current project at Wobulenzi Town Academy (WTA), Uganda has previously involved a full refurbishment of the original run-down buildings, re-equipment of the school facilities, and has more recently culminated in the building of a brand new secondary school on adjacent land. The WTA was started by local Ugandan, Charles Opio, who's life mission has been to provide a safe and secure environment to educate and protect children who have been orphaned or traumatised through disease and through the ravages of civil war in the north of Uganda.
Part of our remit is to arrange team trips from the UK out to these projects. People who join these trips invariably experience life-changing encounters and return to the UK with a strengthened understanding of both the conditions and the acceptance of the people there who have so little in their lives.
The timing of this November 2011 trip to WTA has been set to coincide with the last two weeks of the term at the school - the students are able to depart from the formal timetable which enables UK teams to participate more fully in extra curricular activities/workshops etc. as well as undertaking the project practical/building work.
The two week trip is from mid-November and has the potential to be particularly rewarding as it occurs at the end of the first year at the new site for the school as well as having the focus of building a small Health & Community Centre next to the school.
UK Team members for this trip are:
Steve Clasby
Stephen Harris
John Fowler
Geoff Rapley
Sheila Rapley
Andy Dilley
The team will be to help fund and build this new Health & Community Centre located next to the school, and to get involved with taking extra curricular activities with the students. There is opportunity to be involved in sport, art, science practicals, teaching and Christian based programs.
