Why your donation matters

“Mum fought a hard battle with cancer and I would like to thank you for the wonderful care and support she received from St. David's throughout her illness, and for the dignity your nurses gave her, the tenderness that she was shown and the respect and support we all received in her final days. I am also grateful to Bernie for her honesty in preparing me for the end, and her strength in helping me make sure Mum’s final wishes were met.”

This is a typical quote from a grateful family member - and your donation helps us provide these much needed services.

In the year 2010/2011 3,014 patients and their families were cared for by us, funded largely by the generosity of the community.

Case study: donations in action

St. David’s came into our life 3 years ago. My husband John suffered from a progressive brain disease. Over several years it robbed him of his mobility, continence and speech, but not his mind – or his lovely smile. He wanted to stay at home and I wanted to be able to care for him there. However, as his condition worsened, caring became increasingly difficult. As an ‘amateur’ carer, you can sometimes feel frightened. I’d heard about hospice care, but thought it was only for people with cancer. When my GP told me that St. David’s would be able to help us, it was such a relief.

Sadly John died just a few months ago. St. David’s nurses were with us, and John was able to die as he wanted to - with his family at his side. It is through the help of people like you that my husband received the professional care he needed. My family and I are so grateful to generous people like you who help maintain St. David’s work. Yours sincerely Ruth
