FLORA LONDON MARATHON 2009
Dear All
Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page for the Flora London Marathon 2009.
I have been awarded a place to run in this years Flora London Marathon 2009 on behalf of Whizz Kidz and I hope to raise in excess of £1500 for this very worthwhile charity. The marathon takes place on 26th April 2009 and I am hoping to gain as much sponsorship as possible. Running in this marathon is something I have always wanted to do, and to be able to raise money for such worthwhile charity whist achieving a personal ambition will make this a great day both for myself and for the children who are less fortunate that my own.
Whizz Kidz is all about giving disabled children and young people the freedom to enjoy an active childhood - at home and at play. By providing them with customised mobility equipment, wheelchair training, advice and life skills, Whizz Kidz actually give them something more important; the independence to be themselves. Whizz Kidz. The charity provides an invaluable service which ensures every child or young persons individual needs are met through the provision of specialist mobility equipment, training and advice.
The right training equipment and advice can for many be the gateway to mainstream education and the freedom to enjoy an active home and social life. These factors help to improve a young persons confidence and self esteem and will ultimately lead to a free and independent lifestyle, allowing them to reach their full potential.
CASE STUDY...David,s Story
David is a lively 15 year old boy who likes "talking books" history programs on TV and girls!. He has a younger brother and sister and attends a special school. He has ambitions to write a book in the future.
David has Cerebral Palsy. He is unable to walk at all and is a full time wheel chair user. He has been using a powered chair for some time but wants to be able to stand at will as circumstances arise, instead of waiting for two carers to become available. Before getting his new chair, David was only able to stand up in a standing frame when it was "his turn" a couple of times a week at school.
The NHS does not provide standing chairs, so David,s family approached Whizz-Kidz. Whizz-Kidz fully funded a Dragon Vertic standing chair. This will enable David to continue being independent around school and at home, and will also allow him to stand at will in appropriate circumstances. This has greatly increased his confidence.
