Food, Water, and Shelter
the 3 necessities for staying alive.

'The tent that couldn't go to Haiti'

Touched by the recent disaster in Haiti I tried to donate a new 8 man tent to the relief effort, after many phone calls and e-mails to various organisations I was dismayed and frustrated to find out that this couldn't be done due to the logistical cost-it just wasn't viable.

So undaunted had to come up with a plan B

To raise at least £150 by using the tent as a 'symbol of shelter', I also hit upon the idea of selecting the name of one donator to the fund and making them the 'patron' of this tent, so for every £2 you donate you have a better chance of becoming the 'patron', the 'patron' may then donate the tent to their local 'Scout association group' for example, and therefore the benefit would be felt both here and abroad. At the end of the fundraising (2 months or £150 is reached) the name of the 'patron' will be picked and they will be contacted by E-mail.

The charity i chose is 'Shelterbox', a British organisation which provides aid and assistance all over our fragile world.

you can donate a minimum of £2 (or more if you wish).

£150 isn't a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things, but to those in need-a little is a lot.

The earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, at 4:53 p.m.

So far, no one really knows the death toll. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is estimating that between 50,000 and 100,000 people have been killed. But General Ken Keen, the head military officer in charge of relief efforts in Haiti, says the total may be closer to 200,000. The Red Cross calculates that 3 million — roughly one-third the country's entire population — have been directly affected by the quake.

These are numbers, behind these numbers are families just like our own, young and old, babies to grandparents.

please let other people know about 'the tent that couldnt go to Haiti' and direct them to this page.

A small effort on our part will mean a lot to them.

Thank you, and peace be with you.
