Hello! You’ve made it to my fundraising page. There’s no way of me escaping from this now.

Between October 16th and November 1st 2009 I will be trekking from Lukla in Nepal to Everest Base Camp to raise money for Sue Ryder Care.

Sue Ryder Care

Sue Ryder offer residential and nursing care for people living with conditions such as , , , , and .

It's estimated that each year 300,000 people with conditions do not receive the care they need. These debilitating conditions can affect anyone regardless of age and standard of living (or drug and alcohol intake!).

Joking aside, it could be me, you, your parents, your children or your friends who will get struck down by one of these illnesses. Sue Ryder is a lifeline for thousands of people in the UK who suffer on a daily basis. They really do provide a great service and you can read more about their amazing work by clicking here.

The Trek

I won't bore you with all the details but the trek to Base Camp is an uphill battle covering in excess of 100km at altitude. The amount of oxygen in the air at Base Camp (17,500 Feet) is reduced by about 40%. Unfortunately, we’ll be pitching tents every night and there are no en-suite facilities along the way (I’ve checked). I’m looking forward to getting friendly with a few Yaks…more about that on my return.

BCB International have kindly donated a large chunk of my kitlist.  For anyone looking for military equipment in the jungle, in the middle of a desert or half way up a mountain you should get in touch with them by visiting their website.

Donating

My fundraising target is £10k and I have covered the basic cost of the trip myself. Every penny you donate will go to Sue Ryder Care to help people in the UK suffering from these very painful and isolating conditions.

If you're an invididual sponsor then:

£15 will provide a half-hour mobility session for someone suffering from Multiple Scelrosis

£25 will pay for two home-visits for a stroke patient

£50 will pay for three bereavement sessions helping people to cope with the tragic consequences of these debilitating illnesses.

As a corporate sponsor:

£300 will cover the daily cost of running a hospice bed

£750 will pay for 24 hours of expert nursing at one of Sue Ryders neurological car centres

£1500 will cover the weekly cost of running a care clinic at a hospice. These clinics provide seriously ill patients with the tools to get through life one day at a time.

Please give generously – especially corporate sponsors because it’s you who can make the biggest difference here!

Thanks for dropping by and I’ll paste a link to photos and videos of the trip (and any Yak mischief) when I get back.

Kind Regards,

Huw
