My story

Latest News:

On Dec 14th, 2007 I held a fundraising evening for SHIVA Charity & Nepal Orphans Home.  Our distinguished guest for the evening was actor, Jeremy Irons. It proved to be a wonderful/ magical, intimate evening and funds were raised to help & create awareness. Thank you to Mr Irons and all those who made the evening possible!

Why I'm Fundraising

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for SHIVA Charity.  This is my third campaign with Justgiving - so the total goes back to zero and we start all over again! The last few years have raised thousands - giving the poorest children in Nepal, Sri Lanka - and the school I personally sponsor in India, an education and a way out of poverty.  Please contribute to change the lives of some very special children, their families and their community at large.

In the past, a number of celebrities have helped in my campaign and I am forever grateful --- Duchess of York -Sarah Ferguson, Dame Judi Dench, Jeremy Irons, Robin Williams, Joanna Lumley, David Jason, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Emma Thompson, Twiggy, Ewan McGregor, Ricky Gervais, Michael Palin, Kylie Minogue, the late Dame Anita Roddick, Bryan Ferry, Jose Carreras, Brian Blessed, George Michael, Quentin Blake, Sir Richard Branson, Sir Chris Bonington,  Robbie Coltrane, Martin Kemp and so many, many more. It touches my heart when so many chose to help when I know they are bombarded with charity requests on a daily basis.

Having visited SHIVA schools in Nepal 2 yrs ago, I returned this past April 07 with my teenage daughter and spent time with the children & staff at the school I sponsor over the border with Nepal in India.  It was a wonderful, life changing experience and I am committed to doing all I can to help raise funds for the necessities (that we take for granted) that will allow the children there to get an education & a fighting chance at life. In the past year, we had a new building put up, toilets and electricity implemented, bought school furniture, white boards and essentials. Meeting the children & their families was such an emotional thing - the village elders literally came out to us and thanked us for doing so much. Not a dry eye in the community!

Please dig deep and sponsor me online.  Even if you just forgo that 1 cup of coffee from a well known high street chain & donate the money here, you will just about cover a month's tuition for a small child to attend school - giving them an invaluable experience & a lifetime of opportunities & experiences they may never know otherwise.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Schools Helping India Voluntary Association (SHIVA) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

If you have any questions, you can also email me at: homespunamericana@hotmail.com  - no details will be passed on to others.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
