My story

For ten days this August, I will be taking part in an epic fundraising challenge! I will be trekking the Great Wall of China in order to raise funds on behalf of Scope – the Cerebral Palsy charity.

Why am I doing this?

There are a few reasons why I decided to take up this challenge and walk the Great Wall. First and dearest to my heart is Archie, my nephew aged 4 who was diagnosed with a physical form of CP when he was 2 years old. Fortunately Archie is only very mildly affected by the disorder in his left foot which means that he has trouble running, jumping and is a little clumsy!

Secondly, I wanted to do something to help people with CP. Prior to Archie’s diagnosis I had no idea how CP affected people. Digging a bit deeper into the subject I found out that CP is the most commonly diagnosed physical condition in the UK and occurs around the time of birth when part of the brain fails to develop properly. I also came to discover Scope,  the good work they do for raising the awareness of, and the support they offer to people with, CP.

Thirdly, if I was ever going to ask people to pledge their support for me I wanted to really challenge myself – physically and very probably mentally. Me, walking, without lifts or escalators, in China, in August – well if that isn’t worth at least a tenner of your support – if only to look at the post trip photos….

I have pledged to raise £3000 by June with the support of Jakes of Soho in Berwick Street, London.

Please support me in this challenge by donating online above or by visiting www.shoenidoeschina.co.uk or my facebook page.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scope will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support, I will keep you updated on my fundraising and training progress.
