This was not a BBC charity event, it was an event organised by Andy and myself which was held at the BBC bar where we are members....okay!
The event was a highly successful, fun evening for everyone. The most amazing thing about it for me was the joy of giving that everyone brought and took away from the night. I seemed to spend the whole night saying thank you and being thanked. I hope everyone that attended was feeling the love in the room. The Fasbat team made an excellent job of kicking things off with a musical quiz, getting a man who's usually behind the camera (Ross Thomas- proud father of two) to come up on stage and prove why. Everyone smashed it with the karaoke, I was well impressed- with a notable BOOM SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE THE ROOM from Heidi Krzyszowski - and I must mention personally giving it up for my footie team screaming 'You'll Never Walk Alone' with Pat the cat and our photographer Morgan. Karaoke was doing it, lots of people rocked!- The Day family are a musical dream! ! The evening was carried on brilliantly by Dan and Geoff fresh from a West End comedy show, and there was a marvellous array of goodies being given as raffle prizes to plenty of winners. If you won the tattoos and QPR tickets let us know what you had done. Andy and I still have some size 10 dresses to shift at some point and some rather nice ladies underwear actually. But there was too much fun being had to stop it for a mini auction so we'll have to come up with some ideas about that. The story continues in April we hope......you coming?
Andy also has a donation page at justgiving.com/andy-day. If the photo's aren't enough and you want live action please contact Chris Towndrow to buy a copy of the film on 07834609699 or visit the website www.silvertipfilms.co.uk Enjoy and DONATE! x

Right so back to the campaign to raise £5k.........
Who am I raising money for?
I am raising money for Georgie's fund a friends and family run registered charity who support research into neuroblastoma a very aggressive cancer which affects young children. It is a life-taker of the young and you can find out more at www.georgies-fund.com
Why am I doing it?
As a parent, t.v presenter and family man I see it as one of many ways to take a stand for society where real young lives are snatched without hope. Where questions are not satisfactorily met by answers - yet. I'm hoping that by just being available, not asking questions or seeking answers might help to make a positive difference. Also I'm not very good at giving so I need to learn.
What happened?
When I was asked to be a patron of the charity, I had to seriously consider how I might be able to help. Patron's just have their names on a piece of headed paper don't they? Being a man of action and very hands on ( Put down that inuendo!) I could only really see myself being best available by getting involved. Naturally I wanted to meet those associated and find out more. I became familiar with Tania- George's mum and Lynne- George's glamorous grandmother and then I went along to their charity fund-raising event at a golf club in Surrey. I met a group of very ordinary and lovely people who are doing their best to emulate a very charming and bright young soul whose life was taken by neuroblastoma at the age of 8. What touched me most was their ordinariness- just like your friends and family or mine, their generosity, selflessness and fantastic drive to just do what they can to help other children and their families who might suffer in the same way that they did. To keep George's name alive.
What am I doing about it?
Well I like to take risks, although I'm not as daredevil as I like to think nor without a hint of calculation in my risk-taking. But catch me on the right day and I will jump from anything anywhere anytime.......although I'm a little tied-up right now. In fact I'm needed on the ground to walk up three mountains in 24hrs in May for Georgie's fund.
The risk element came for me when I was diagnosed with halux limitus in both my big toes earlier this year and was staring an operation in the face- sneeringly! What you laughing at! - this means I have a limited range of movement in not just one but BOTH big toes (5 degrees instead of 60). So for me the walk would have been that bit tougher. I have since seen a surgeon and I will be having an x-ray guided pain-killing localised steroid injection ( I feel like a footballer ) in February which will keep me going for 6 to 12 months. So I will run instead of walk these mountainous troughs just to up the stakes- no actually I'd better stay with the others, there's about 12 of us, don't want to lose anyone know what I mean!? I'll keep you posted......in fact if you have any information you wish to share on toe injections or operations let me know at sidneysloane@hotmail.com and we'll see who has the most interesting addition.
So I will start gentle winter training- bbbrrrrrrhhh and look forward to May
What can you do?
Well you can donate for starters. You can keep posted by checking out this page for regular photo updates, blogs, news of and reports from fund-raising events in words and pictures and even a few short film sketches from myself and Andy Day ( CBeebies presenter ) to hopefully make you giggle.
Oh and do, do, please do....... DONATE!
Thanks for absorbing- For that I love ya!
Sid x
**UPDATE**
We had another fabulouso fundraiser on Tuesday 27 April....you missed it! I have to admit it was not as slick as I would have liked on the interactive quiz side of things, but we borrowed it and the CD was corrupted so it wouldn't run on the mac and we had to use a proper dinosaur of a laptop computer.....and.......anyway......I tell you once you've had mac......Luckily I did not care to let it bother me because I was amongst friends....I hope.. and it was all for charities so thank you once again to the gorgeous people who attended and helped to make it a great night.
So anyway after all these efforts two things have gone down which mean I will now only complete one of the three peaks- Ben Nevis. I have mentioned the steroid injections earlier up the page, due to be located in my pretty mangled big toes in February right?... well due to hospital appointment errors I had one a few weeks ago! and the other on Wednesday 28 April!...way too late I have discovered in preparation for an event that will put my big toes in particular under a lot of stress.....and I will also need to be fully fighting fit and healthy for a work schedule which sees me fly to S.Africa the day after the challenge! (also not originally in plans).......and I have nothing to prove to anyone......so I am pulling out of two peaks and seeing the lads off after the first one. I hope this does not put you off sponsoring us as a few of the lads will carry the flag and still be hiking for Goergies Fund and I can honestly see no point in risking things more than I need to, but if you wish a refund this can be arranged. Otherwise I will be gutted to not complete the challenge but hope you support us anyway.
P.S
Go to facebook and look up myself or Andy Day for photo's of our training walk...
