My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

There are several reasons why Melanie and I are attempting Kilimanjaro for Stepping Stones.

Sadly cancer has affected our lives in many ways. Last year Melanie's grandmother Queenie and our friend Jason lost their lives to cancer. We are doing this climb in their memory.

As a Palliative Care Consultant in Newport, the majority of patients I look after have incurable lung cancer. I see, first hand the effect this disease has on them and their families.

I am also a researcher focussing on new ways we can try to beat lung cancer. This will take time and money but slowly we are making progress.

I know personally that cancer research does work. Ten years ago I received chemotherapy for Hodgkin's lymphoma. It was once an incurable condition yet, researchers were able to develop a treatment that cured me. Someone somewhere raised the money that funded the research that gave me my life. This is our way of saying thankyou.

In setting up this page, we have realised how much cancer has touched the lives of our families, friends and colleagues. We hope to honour all those who lives are affected by this disease and to let them know they are not alone.

Please give generously and let anyone who knows us to visit our page.

Many thanks

Simon and Melanie
